Position: International Recruiter
Current Location: Croatia

My living and working abroad story
Hi, my name is Nina and I’m 31 years old. I was born and raised in Germany, but I moved to Croatia to a small, beautiful village near the sea since I love lying on the beach and enjoying the sun or having a nice glass of Wine with a delicious platter of cheese and prosciutto in the vineyards.
My favourite Working Adventures destination
The island Crete in Greece is on top of my list. I have never been there before, but I would love to go, it looks amazing! There are breathtaking beaches and some of the most important cultural sites in Europe. Crete is also known for its delicious food.
My top tip for working aboard

Do some research (Google, magazines, books) about the country you want to move to. Ask the recruiter as many questions as you like during the interview, we are here for you! Make sure your passport/ID is valid for at least 6 months. Moving abroad is an adventure of a lifetime you will never forget.

My living and working abroad story

I am currently living in Italy and it is due to my partner who is Italian. We moved less than a month ago after a year in Cyprus. He’s a chef so in a way I’ve been following him to different countries. I really like living in Italy, the food is amazing and there are so many beautiful places to visit.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

I really like the Czech Republic, I visited 5 years ago during winter and it was stunning. There is a lot to discover over there. Stunning cathedral and museums. Even through the cold it felt like a very warm place to be.

My top tip for working aboard

I believe it is all about motivation, if you really want to go then you need to try until it works. This could be the experience of your life and change it completely!

My living and working abroad story

I am currently living in England but planning on moving back to Spain in the upcoming months. I spent my early twenties travelling and exploring Europe before settling in Spain where I fell in love with the country, culture and of course the amazing climate.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

Athens! I am completely head over heels in love with Athens and Greece in general. It is such a lively country with great weather, great food and amazing history.

My top tip for working aboard

Research! My top tip is always research as much as you can about the country you want to move to and then take the leap! Moving abroad can be very scary but it is also one of the best decisions I ever made. You will meet people from all over the world and make friends and memories for life.

Position: International Recruiter
Current Location: Italy

My living and working abroad story

I moved to Italy 4 years ago to join my partner after 7 years of long distance relationships between Belgium and Italy. I love everything about Italy, the warm culture, the colorful cities, the landscapes, the food, etc. It’s a chaotic country in some way, but I wouldn’t go back to Belgium.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

My favorite destination is Lisbon, because it’s a very joyful place, people are happy about living in Portugal, thanks to the enormous possibilities the country offers. I went a few times in Lisbon, and Faro and I just can’t wait to go back. To taste a good Pasteis de nata.

My top tip for working aboard

My top tip would be to go for it, don’t be scared about the unknown. Each country works differently, with its own culture. But this is what I love the most about working and living abroad, you get to immerse yourself in the culture of the others, and trust me you will grow from it a lot.

Veronika

Veronika

Position: Dutch Recruiter
Current location: Czech Republic

My living and working abroad story

I was born in the Czech Republic, but I grew up in Belgium. Eventually, for love, I permanently moved to the Czech Republic in 2015. I love nature here and I also feel very safe in this country. People often come together, are friendly and let’s not forget that it’s very cheap to live here!

My favourite Working Adventures destination

My favorite destination is Barcelona! I visited it and immediately felt at home. It doesn’t feel like a big city and I like that people go out after work to eat tapas for example, which by the way are perfect if you want to discover new dishes.

My top tip for working aboard

My tip is to enjoy yourself above all else. You will make memories and friendships that will stay with you for the rest of your life. With an open mindset, immerse yourself in a new environment and culture.

Kimberley

Position: Dutch Recruiter
Current location: South Africa

My living and working abroad story

I first came to South Africa 10 years ago for an exchange program. Back then I was located in the Eastern Cape but had the chance to travel all over the country and fell in love with the nation. Once I graduated, I found a job here, then met my husband and 7 years later I am still in Cape Town.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

One of my favorite destinations that we offer is Greece. I love the people, the food and way of life there. Athens itself is such a buzzing city, with many cute little cafes but also has such stunning architecture and a beautiful history to it. Definitely worth visiting or better yet, moving too!

My top tip for working aboard

Life can be scary no matter where you are living. So my tip is to take the chance and move abroad! Experience a new culture, meet new people, try new dishes! You will not only gain many new experiences but also grow as a person! It is an opportunity that I feel everyone should grasp with both hands!

Roel

Position: Dutch Recruiter
Current Location: South Africa

My living and working abroad story

I met my South African wife while still studying. After 7 years in The Netherlands, travelling to South Africa often we made the move to South Africa in 2011. I love that I live close to two very modern cities in Johannesburg and Pretoria and that I’m very close to nature where we can wind down and relax.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

My favorite destination would be Barcelona. I love the hustle and bustle of the city, the vibe you experience and the fact that it has a combination of the historic city center and some ultra modern architecture as well. A big plus is of course that you have access to a beach practically in the city center!

My top tip for working aboard

Before permanently moving abroad, visit the place you want to go to multiple times. Engage with locals, learn about the challenges, and understand the reality beyond a holiday. Every place has pros and cons, so be aware and prepared.

Julia

Position: International Recruiter
Current Location: Malta

My living and working abroad story
Hi, my name is Julia. While searching for a job opportunity in a warm and sunny country, I ran into Malta. Luckily they speak English as their primary language, so I found a job there. This is my fourth year living in Malta and one of the main reasons I stayed was the warm and sunny weather.
My favourite Working Adventures destination

Last year I went to Athens, therefore, I would pick this as my favorite, besides Malta. It has so much history and there are so many great places to see. One of my favorites was the few from Acropolis down to the whole city. Also, the Greek food is just amazing.

My top tip for working aboard

Stay motivated and eager to learn new things and meet new people. That’s what this is all about. Dive into the new life and learn more about the traditions of the country, the language and get to know the people. This way you are going to have the best time of your life.

Melody

Melody

Position: International Recruiter
Current Location: Spain

My living and working abroad story
I moved to southern Spain 7 years ago, primarily to escape the harsh German winters. However, that wasn’t the only reason that enticed me to Spain. I was captivated by the mindset of the people, the vibrant culture, the close proximity to the beach, and the added bonus of learning a global language.
My favourite Working Adventures destination

My top choice is Lisbon. I adore the Iberian Peninsula, the breathtaking climate, and the open-mindedness of the locals. Moreover, its proximity to central Europe makes it an ideal destination for anyone venturing out on their own for the first time, away from family.

My top tip for working aboard

Immerse yourself in the local culture from day one. Embrace the language, try traditional cuisines, and connect with locals beyond your work circle. It’s the key to truly experiencing the richness of your new home and creating lifelong memories.

My living and working abroad story

Hi there! I am Lydia and I am currently in Africa. After my studies in Psychology I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I decided to travel through Africa solo. I fell in love with nature, the people, the culture, wildlife, everything!

My favourite Working Adventures destination

Definitely Barcelona! One of my best friends lives there, so I have visited quite frequently. Honestly, Spanish culture is just amazing! The food, the dancing, the picturesque streets, the shopping areas, the sangria!!!

My top tip for working aboard

Even though it might seem scary, when you are actually doing it, you will see that it is way less scary than you initially thought. I 100% recommend you to take the step, you will learn so much from it and it’s honestly life changing in the best way possible!

My living and working abroad story

With an adventurous soul, I left Belgium for Portugal, kickstarting a 9-year journey through Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Ibiza. Embracing change, I found calm in the tranquil countryside of Ibiza’s North—surrounded by nature and hidden calas.

My favourite Working Adventures destination

Falling in love with Portugal was inevitable. Lisbon’s blend of city life, history, art and nature stole my heart. Exploring the streets on Sunday mornings was pure bliss. Escaping the city? Just a short drive away you can relax at the beach, surf, or immerse in lush green mountains. Lisboa saudade!

My top tip for working aboard
My personal tip for working abroad: Embrace the nerves; it’s natural. Relish in the change, go with the flow. Make connections, embrace a new culture, and most importantly discover yourself in this adventurous new chapter of your life. The world is your oyster.

Position: Head of Marketing

My living and working abroad story

I previously lived, traveled and did internships abroad. A few years ago I met my current partner in Puglia (Italy). After 3 years of traveling back and forth, I decided to quit my job and apartment and move here and never looked back!

My favourite Working Adventures destination

Hard to choose, but my favorite destination has to be Greece. The country has hundreds of beautiful islands, friendly people, is affordable, good food and it is easy to travel. In addition, the language is fun and there are many more reasons. I visit Greece every year!

My top tip for working aboard

Don’t overthink it! Moving abroad can indeed be exciting, I understand that better than anyone. But often a new destination is just a short 2-hour flight away and you can always go home tomorrow. But I bet you don’t really want to go back at all!

Sophie

Position: Recruitment Director
Current Location: Netherlands

A little introduction
I’m Sophie and I’m living in the amazing city of Amsterdam. I moved here for my studies over 10 years ago and am still in love with the city. As someone who loves being with her family, having my parents & brothers all living within 5 minutes from my house is really nice. I still hope to have the opportunity to live and work abroad in the next couple of years but first I need to pick from a huge list where to go!
My favourite Working Adventures destination
My favourite destination is Lisbon! Growing up we always holidayed in Portugal, therefore, I have many nice memories of day trips to Lisbon and the surrounding area. I love the colour and atmosphere of the city and all the friendly locals you meet.
My top tip for working aboard

Build a friendship group: Seek out fellow expats or locals who can be your support system in the first few weeks. Having a solid group of friends makes a massive impact when settling into a new place.

Graham

Position: Operations Manager
Current Location: Netherlands

My living and working abroad story
After a number of years hopping between places in Europe, I found my home in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and have been here for over 7 years now. For someone who is a mountain lover and enjoys being in nature, living in a large city in a very flat country might seem a strange choice but sometimes opposites attract!
My favourite Working Adventures destination
Riga! When I was younger I did a backpacking trip across Eastern Europe and Riga was one of the destinations that really surprised me. I ended up staying for a few weeks enjoying the beautiful old town, eating great food and meeting many friendly locals.
My top tip for working aboard
Don’t compare the salary to what you’ll receive back home in your native country, instead focus on the cost of living and what you’re able to get for your salary in your new country. We offer lots of jobs in Southern & Eastern Europe where you’ll earn less than in places like Belgium, The Netherlands & Germany, however, you’ll be able to have a better standard of living than at home with more money for better accommodation, awesome day trips & nice food!

My living and working abroad story
”Do you speak German and want to work in Portugal?” A month after filling out my contact details on this ad, I was on my way to Portugal. I planned to have a great summer abroad. Plans changed. I got a promotion into Recruitment & fell in love. We just celebrated our 5-year anniversary in Portugal.
My favourite Working Adventures destination

Lisbon – the city that has it all. You’ll never have problems finding a delicious Sangria in one of the trendy rooftop bars/restaurants. A late night snack after a fun night in Bairro Alto? No problem! Combining the sunny weather with the relaxed way of life close to the beach – How could anyone resist?

My top tip for working aboard
Most people move to another country on their own and are concerned if they will make friends abroad. You will easily be able to connect with people from all over the world and experience the city with its special flair together.
